New semester of Magickal Studies Starting at Enchantments June 2nd, 2012!

Good Evening,

During my weekly discussions with you I talk about all things magickal, and tonight is no exception. But tonight I want to talk a bit about the magickal studies classes at Enchantments. Have you ever wanted to take magickal studies classes? Well a new semester is starting on Saturday June 2nd, 2012 and you are cordially invited to attend!

Let me tell you about my classes at Enchantments. Firstly, I teach all of the classes myself. I have had 30 plus years of practicing witchcraft and all things magickal and its my expertise and experience you will learn from. The entire course is one year from the day you first start classes and over the course of the year you will learn:

The history of the witch and witchcraft,
Potions magick,
Spell Casting,
Divination including tarot cards and runes,
Pendulum magick,
How to cast a magick circle,
How to conduct a magick ritual,
Moon Magicks,
Garden Magicks,
Omens and Signs,
Cord Magick,
Making Poppets,
How to think like a witch,
Candle Magick,

These are the majority of areas covered and we discuss so much more. There are movies, power point presentations and lectures. I administer tests, quizzes and exams and at the end of the year a ritual is held where you are declared a witch in good standing and you are then considered fully trained to conduct your own rituals, start your own coven, work as a solitary, do your own magick and live and practice as a witch in your own life.

The cost for this course is $100 monthly and classes are held on Saturday mornings from 10 to noon. To register, you must come to Enchantments and fill out a registration application and go through a two week process of interviews to make sure you and Enchantments are a good fit for one another. Only serious, committed individuals are considered for acceptance into the Enchantments one year Magickal Studies Program.

So mark your calendars and stop by the shop to fill out your registration application. Classes are for those 18 years and older, no exceptions. There are discounted rates for family members in the same household who wish to attend together.

I hope to see you soon!

Witches and Apples ~ Why do we fare so poorly in fairy tales?

Good Evening,

First let me re-cap our Past Life Regression workshop held this past Saturday at Enchantments. It was awesome!! We had a full house and everyone went under and experienced past life after past life! It was super fun for me hearing the stories and experiences of everyone. I chose one woman who had several 'vivid' very clear past lives in the first group regression to do a one-on-one with me during break when everyone else had coffee and pie. I had her sit in front of the group and with her eyes closed, she listened to my voice as I talked her through a past life where she saw her son today, and he was also her son in the past life she experienced. Except she was his father in this past life!

That's one of the interesting things about experiencing past lives, we often 'recycle' with others in our lives through many lifetimes. The relationship with others is not always the same though, as it was with this woman's son. Many times a son in this lifetime could be your wife in a past life, a daughter could be your father, your spouse could have been your best friend. Oh yes, we also experience different genders, lifetime to lifetime! Yes, that's right. You have been both male and female throughout your many lifetimes. I'll let you sit with that thought for a moment or two!

It was a very successful Past Life Regression workshop and I will plan to schedule another sometime in the future, perhaps later in the year or early next year. Keep reading my witches blog for updates, and if you're really interested please send me your email address and I'll include you in my email links sent from this blog weekly. You'll get the latest link as well as any information of upcoming events!

Now onto our topic for this evening. Witches and Apples. Have you noticed that witches and apples seem to go together in many fairy tales? Of course the delicious apple, many times is poisoned, and the witch is the bad guy trying to give the poisoned apple to an innocent. Hmmmmmmmm. (Finger tips rapping staccato on desk top) Really! Well, I can't pretend to know what was going through the mind of an author of a classic children's fairytale while he was writing it, but I do know a few things about witches and apples and our ancient connection to one another.

Some may have heard about the ancient Isle of Avalon that features prominently in the Arthurian saga of King Arthur, the Knights of the Round Table, Morgan LeFay and The Lady of the Lake. The Isle of Avalon was reputed to be an island of witches or Priestesses of the Goddess, those who followed the old craft at a time when Christianity was starting to overtake Western Europe. Avalon is an ancient Welsh word that stands for afal or apple. The Isle of Apples.

Even in the Old Testament, in the Book of Genesis, the early Christians took the fruit of knowledge and made it an apple. Yes, yes, I know that considering the locale of the Garden of Eden would have been in the Middle East that scholars today believe the fruit of knowledge was most likely a pomegranate, but its important to understand that the early Christians made the fruit an apple. Actually apple was a term given to most fruits except for berries in ancient times. So apple was a generic term that stood for fruit. Fruit has long been associated with the essence of the Goddess, whereas Wheat and grains have long stood to represent the God.

The early Christians did not do much by happenstance, at least to my understanding. They chose an apple because it was a fruit, and fruit was closely associated with the Goddess and the serpent in the Garden, by the way, was no accident either. The serpent or snake had for centuries before Christianity represented women's knowledge and power, so all the better to make it the antagonist in the Garden of Eden story. The apple itself was 'forbidden' as the old religion was forbidden with the onset of Christianity. The serpent represented women's power at a time when women and their power was being denigrated and forcefully put down so that the religion of the one male god could reign with no competition.

The apple has long been considered a fruit of the Goddess, and modern witches today understand this. It is a fruit that has loving energies associated with it, as well as healing energies. Apple cider is credited with all sorts of healing, cleansing, disinfecting and astringent abilities. We see the fruit as a sign of the sacred divine feminine. You can see this also. Take an apple and halve it across the wide part, in other words cut it horizontally. You will see the seed pod dissected across itself and it forms a five pointed star, also a symbol of the Goddess, women and protection. The five pointed star is an ancient symbol that has been seen for thousands of years as a representation of the Great Mother.

I personally feel that as the witch was denigrated and turned evil over time by those who feared us and did not understand what it is that we do, so was the poor, delicious apple turned evil in fairy tales by being poisoned and being used to cause harm and even death.

Yet, the apple retains its magickal abilities in the fairy tales even as it causes 'death' to the princess, or a sleep of a hundred years, its powers are rendered null when a handsome prince kisses the princess thereby breaking the spell and releasing the princess from the poisoned apple's magickal grip.

The apple has long been associated with the witch, and the witch with the apple. I am here to state that neither of us is evil or harmful. We are simply creations of the Goddess and as such, can be quite delicious!

Peace and Happiness!

Birds and their magickal messages for you

Good Evening,

Do you often notice birds when you find yourself outdoors? Many birds are brighter and more spectacular in the winter months with a monochrome background to cause their colors to stand out. I also like birds in the summertime, as I can get closer to viewing them and enjoying their antics in the warm weather. But did you know that birds have a message for you when you see them? A magickal message that can aid you in your daily workings.

The following are just a few messages the birds found in Southern New England hold for us:

The Bluebird: Happiness We've all heard the phrase the "Bluebird of Happiness" well, when you see a bluebird be reminded of the happiness to be found in your life rather than always focusing on the challenges and difficulties.

Cardinal: Transformation As the cardinal flashes amongst the trees flashing bright red and then seeming to disappear amongst the foliage we can use the lesson of transformation to make needed change to our lives by putting aside old, tired concepts that just seem to weigh us down and embracing untried, attractive behaviors that can make us interact with the world in new and exciting ways.

Chickadee: Childishness But in a good way! We at times can get very serious and 'mature' in our outlook on life and this is not always a good thing. The chickadee reminds us that there is a child inside of all of us that needs time to come out and play and explore the world, living and loving and having fun!

Crow: Karma The crow reminds us of karma and with the return of karmic feedback that justice will be served, the scales balanced and needed change will happen. When you see a crow be aware that the circumstances you find yourself in are of your own creation, as we create our reality and if we do not like our present circumstances we can choose to change them.

Hawk: Information you need is coming to you. The hawk is a messenger and its important to be aware and be observant of messages that may be meant for you. The hawk will deliver these messages and you need to be able to see them clearly to use them in your daily life. The druid's called them omens and I believe our lives are filled with omens detailing things yet to occur.

Hummingbird: Spirit The hummingbird brings a higher level of spiritual energy to your world. Seeing a hummingbird is a rare and beautiful gift that may be manifest for just a few seconds but can remain with you all day. When you see a hummingbird know that Goddess/God is close.

Turkey: Gift The turkey shows a level of compassion and generosity that we can all benefit from. When you see a turkey think of how you may give of yourself to others and how you may help another with your compassion, understanding and loving nature.

Pigeons and Seagulls: Both of these birds I feel have the magickal message of community and being with mike minded people. When you see thee birds think about how you react within your community. Are you surrounded with like minded people? If not, how can you go about bringing more like minded people into your life.

These are just a few birds that may cross your path and the lessons they have to share with you.

As an additional note, tonight's discussion marks the 200th discussion I have had with you to this date. I sincerely appreciate your taking time from your precious day to read my work and I can only say that it is very rewarding and fulfilling for me to share with you. I thank you so very much for your time. Have a blessed evening!

Peace and Happiness

An update regarding the Feral Cat Colony at St. James Parish in lower Manhattan, NYC

Good Evening,

Good News!! The most recent meeting between The Archdiocese of New York and the NYC Feral Cat Initiative (NYCFCI) of the Mayor’s Alliance for NYC’s Animals, held on March 27th, 2012, has resulted in the Archdiocese agreeing to work with the NYCFCI to restore daily care and feeding to the colony of eight feral cats living on the premises of the historic St. James Church in lower Manhattan.

There was an agreement reached whereby there will be a sixty-day trial period, during which time, suitable shelters, feeding stations and litter boxes will be placed for the cats use. I've paraphrased the above taken from the blog announcement that informs us of the results of this meeting, and the following has been taken directly from the Mayor's Alliance for NYC's Animals blog:

"There will be an onsite meeting with the church pastor and caretakers this week to work out a routine acceptable to all. The NYCFCI has submitted a proposal for consideration outlining guidelines for ongoing care for the colony to be reconsidered and adopted after the sixty-day trial period."

I was so happy to read this and I want to say Thank you!!!! For everyone who came together to do what's right for these poor animals. Many of you took the time to make phone calls, send emails and let your voice and concerns be heard. This made a difference! Yes, stray animals can be a challenge for our neighborhoods, but as humans we should be more than up for the task and be willing to help out those less fortunate, whether they are on two legs or four.

I will be sure to follow up on this announcement in 60 days to let you know what further decisions have been made for these animals and again I urge you to check out the website for the Mayor's Alliance for NYC's Animals as they are doing great things for our furry neighbors. Things that could and should be copied and adopted in every community in our country.

That website can be found at http://www.animalalliancenyc.org/

This situation reminds me of a quote, that I may very well misquote but here goes: " The true character of a man (person) is shown in how he treats those who can do nothing for him" author unknown

I believe this to be true.

Have you treated an animal kindly today? Even if you don't own a pet, braking for animals in the street counts!

Spring time Magicks! Goddess Petitions

Good Evening,

What a beautiful, spring day today has turned out to be! I love nice weather, the warmer, the gentler, the happier I am. With this lovely weather my thoughts have turned towards different magickal practices that help emphasize the warm, gentle energies flowing around me. I thought I would share with you tonight one of the magickal practices I find myself doing this time of year.

Goddess Petitions: A simple petition is typically a word or sentence written out on a piece of paper that we offer to the Goddess and ask that she help bring the written concept into our lives. One might write "Thank you for bringing love into my life" or simply the word "love" and then the petition is burnt and the energy released and that energy is to return to you with that energy, in this case love, in tow.

A Goddess petition (and I call them this to separate them from simple petitions) is a bit different. A Goddess petition is when you write several words or phrases on separate pieces of paper, a single one on each, and mix them up in a pouch or in a basket, then without looking, reach in with your hand and pick one. The word that is meant for you to work on is the one you choose. You don't burn these petitions but keep them for the next six weeks until the next Sabbat, in this case and then burn them if you choose. You can also choose to put them in your Book of Shadows and keep them this way if you wish. We did this recently at Enchantments during the Ostara Sabbat ritual, I had different words carved into egg shaped candles, and everyone picked a candle with the word meant for them. In the case of using candles for your Goddess petitions, the candle can be burned at the end of the six weeks. The words we used for this Sabbat were: Compassion, Strength, Understanding, Love, Patience and Passion. The egg I chose said quite clearly "Patience"! Hmmmmmm, working on it! Yes, I have to chuckle because a best friend told me, "I love you, but you're not patient!" And I have to laugh, because this friend is right in many ways, although I have learned to be more patient over the years, there is still work to be done.

For all of us there is always more work to be done. We, none of us are ever done cooking, not while we breathe air into our bodies, we can always improve, becoming more compassionate, more patient, stronger, more loving, more passionate and we can always have more understanding for others. I feel sorry for those who feel there is nothing left to work on, because they have truly stopped growing when they get to that 'place'.

You can do your own version of Goddess petitions at home, this springtime, if you wish. Maybe with the Ostara/Easter eggs you will be coloring. With a pencil lightly draw the words on the egg shells that you wish to have the opportunity to pick from. You can choose your own words, maybe concepts you feel would benefit you to work on more. You can also write these on little slips of paper and put them in a basket, toss them around and then pick the one meant for you! By all means eat the hard boiled egg afterwards, if you choose this method, as after six weeks the egg will be a bit old! Write down the word you chose if you're worried that you will forget it.

If you don't wish to hard boil eggs, they sell little plastic hollow eggs this time of year that can be opened and goodies, or in this case your petition papers, can be put inside for your Goddess petitions. They look like these pictured here:

This is just one of the magickal practices I use throughout my year, and I hope you find it helpful too!
